Who Should Be Involved In Your Content Creation Process?

This is the second part in a four-part series about content creation – the who, what, where and why of content creation. The first part was on why smart content creation is essential to online marketing. This second part is on who is producing your content.

Figure Out Your Resources

This is the hardest thing to do when creating content. Many times companies just don’t have to the resources or time to devote to content creation. However, you should at least try to figure out who can help with your content initiatives. A good place to start is with survey questions for employees. We recommend using Google Forms because it’s free and easy to use. Ask your employees who would be willing to create content and what format they prefer (blog posts, videos, graphics, etc.) This is also a good time to ask employees about what blogs they read, how much time they spend on social networking sites and if they would be willing to help promote other content you create.

Showcase You Expertise or Products

Your company probably has smart people. Try to tap into their knowledge to showcase your company’s expertise. Their unique options and views will set your company apart from your competitors. Try to include people from different departments to showcase different areas of your company.

Let the Intern Do It (Sometimes)

Cheap or free labor is awesome! It’s also great to mentor younger or inexperienced workers. There is nothing wrong with letting the intern(s) help create content. But make sure they are good at it. Either ask for writing samples before you hire them or pick the best writer from a pool of interns. Don’t give them free reign. Be sure to edit content and give feedback. Turning it into a learning process for them (and you).

Get Outside Help

If you have the budget but don’t have the time, getting outside help might be the way to go. You may be able to outsource certain aspects of content creation (e.g., video editing), and this can help you create quality content that fits your brand.
