June 01 2011 by ~ 0 Comments

Twitter and Google launched new buttons this week. The Internet has gone button crazy! This is important for marketers because these buttons gives people more options when it comes to sharing information. Many people build large online social networks of friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers. When they share your company’s content it can reach new and potential customers, and people are more likely to trust and buy your products if they’re recommended by someone they know. Here is a quick round-up of the social sharing buttons you should be implementing on your websites:

Facebook

Facebook is still king because it has more than 500 million users.

The Like Button allows users to like almost anything on the web and have it show up on the user’s Facebook Wall. There is also an option for websites to implement the like button and enable people to add a comment to the content/product that they’ve liked.

Facebook’s newest button is the Send Button that allows you to sent specific URL to a friend, group of friends or to any email address. It’s made for private sharing.

Twitter

Twitter’s Tweet button has been a staple of blog posts for a while now because it makes sharing easy by providing users with title, shortened URL and the Twitter account of the source. After the user submits the tweet, they are given the option to follow the source’s Twitter account.

Twitter’s newest button, the Follow Button allows users to easily subscribe to specific Twitter accounts. In the past, websites had to send users to Twitter before users could opt in to follow them. The new button allows the user to follow without getting leaving the website.

LinkedIn

Sharing on LinkedIn is important, especially to B2B companies, because the network is centered on professionals. This LinkedIn button makes it easy for people to share your content with their network on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn recently rolled out a new button that is going to  change how people apply for jobs online. The “Job Application Button” lets job candidates easily submit their LinkedIn profiles as resumes.

Tumblr

The niche mico-blogging site  that to caters fashion, music and an all-around hip crowd has a sharing button that makes it easy to re-blog almost anything with their share button.

Google

Google’s +1 is the button that has the potential to bring together search and social in a way the other buttons have not done. When you search for something in Google, you’ll able to see content that was recommended by friends. This might become one of the signals that will help Google determine a page’s relevance and ranking.

StumbleUpon

Last but not necessarily least. StumbleUpon has a button that you can add to your site that makes it easy for people to submit your content to StumbleUpon and their community of over 10 million people.

What is your take on these social sharing buttons? Have you added them to your site yet to make your content as “shareable” as possible?
