Social Media in the Super Bowl Part 2

February 08 2010 by ~ 0 Comments

Happy Day After the Super Bowl Everyone! Now that the game has been played, wings and pizza have been eaten, and the ads have been watched, it’s time to get your perspective on the game from a marketing standpoint.

While the usual companies made their presence known through out the Super Bowl, we also got a chance to see some firsts.  One company that broke into the Super Bowl ad business was the search engine giant, Google.  Besides analyzing which ad you felt was the best, which ad did the best job of reaching their target market?

The site BrandBowl 2010 has ranked each brand on how effective their Super Bowl ads were.  They took into consideration the number of times the commercial was Tweeted and the general consumer sentiment.  With little surprise, Doritos came in first with the most tweets.

Pepsi (check out their site) came out with a statement a little while back saying that they have chosen not to run an ad during the Super Bowl commercial this year but instead have focused the $20 Million on up grading their website and Social Media efforts.  Do you think this was wise? Did they miss the boat on one of the most important marketing days of the year, or do you think the money is better spent on Social Media?

Also, check out Mashable’s take on how Social Media is changing the Super Bowl.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the Super Bowl and how Social Media has played an important role!
