SEO – Why Aren’t More Companies Doing It?
February 23 2010 by Tiffany Blosser ~ 18 CommentsSearch Engine Optimization has been a proven tool for maintaining the flow of business and generating revenue for a company. Recent statistics have shown that more people than ever are online now and that businesses utilizing online marketing have seen consistent growth. A report by bizreport.com shows that 95% of traffic comes from first page of search results. So why aren’t more companies embracing SEO?
Fortune 500 companies are still not embracing the wonders of SEO. These Fortune 500 companies spend millions on paid searches but still fail in producing natural search visibility. A study conducted by a New York-based SEO services/technology firm, Conductor, found that only 15% of Fortune 500 companies have a “mid to strong” presence in natural search results for the same keywords they advertise most and 53% of companies don’t have any online presence for the keywords they advertise most.
The recession has been a major factor playing into the lack of interest in SEO by companies. This misunderstood practice is one that’s hard to get companies to go for in tougher times. Educating clients and businesses about the benefits and logistics of SEO is also extremely important. Companies aren’t typically willing to shell out money for something they can’t fathom what it is. An article by Promotion World gives tips and advice for selling SEO during recessions and, I must say, the argument is compelling and the advice is strong.
Whether it’s due to the recession or a company’s lack of education on the subject, SEO has proven time and again to be a successful tool in generating online traffic and revenue for companies. More companies should be increasing their presence online as the consumer trends and habits rapidly jump online.
