Optimizing the Brand for Social Search
March 15 2010 by Erik Eitel ~ 4 CommentsMonitoring how your brand is perceived across the social networks is important, but there are some severe misconceptions about who really refers traffic to your site. If I asked a group of people which site referred traffic to their sites, I would be willing to bet that the majority of people would say Google. That is not the case.
As you can see in the chart above, in almost every situation Google is losing the race in referrals. In fact, it’s the social networks that dominate the traffic referrals. With this being said, it is important to optimize your site so that the social search is effective. Here are some tips from Brian Solis to just that.
- Optimize the site and all social objects for traditional, social, and real-time search
- Add social connectivity to the home site to facilitate maximum engagement
- Monitor the activity and find ways to improve the experience and also sharing
Along with these tips, it is also important to not forget the basics such as:
- Encouraging feedback
- Following up with users
- Direct engagement
