Facebook’s Open Graph Won’t Replace Google

Last week Facebook announced it’s new platform at F8, Open Graph. This newest addition to Facebook is said to make the web a whole lot better. It’ll bring in third party partnerships and of course, the infamous “like” button. So with all this stuff happening, what’s that got to do with Google? It had some execs shaking in their boots worrying about the future SEO. Watch the video linked to the article to see why Google has nothing to worry about. Just to kill the suspense, SEO isn’t going anywhere.

When Barcodes Become Social Networks

As if we need another social network, some people are up to their ears in all the different sites they have joined but this one is different. If the wonders of an iPhone haven’t already sent you running to Apple, this newest app surely will. Barcodes are now links to social networks. By simply scanning the barcode of an item, any commodity with a barcode, it automatically connects you to others who have scanned the same item. The app brings up comments, reviews and pictures from other users. Simple as that, scan a barcode and your in!

BP Fumbles Social Media Response to Spill, What Should It Do?

By now most have probably heard about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico from one of BP’s oil rigs. It’s a tragedy and is threatening the surrounding areas. So what is BP doing to correct this situation? Obviously trying to stop the oil from spreading, but nothing else. Their PR staff and marketers aren’t doing much either. The latest trending topics on Twitter when you search for BP is “BP oil spill” and “Gulf.” This calls for a major social media strategy and it should have been started the minute the spill occurred. A social media strategy is all too important to forget during tough times like this. If nothing else can be salvaged from this tragedy, atleast attempt to repair the BP image.

R.I.P. My Dear Email

Instead it’s an article that offers an interesting way to improve your email marketing techniques by doing something you wouldn’t of thought to do. Write your email marketing program and techniques an obituary. That’s right. Obituaries are supposed to be memorable statements about the accomplishments of one’s life. By writing one for your email marketing, you can see where the strengths are but also where the problems and weaknesses are as well. Try it out and see what errors you find in your email marketing.

Make Sure You’re Tracking the Right Data

With all of today’s social networks, email marketing, website analytics, SEO, just to name a few, it’s hard not to find yourself under a pile of data. While all this data that you collect through various means may seem to have come value, that’s not always the case. This article in Mashable offers a “How to” measure the right data for the right reasons. You can track and compile data all you want but unless the data means something for your particular marketing strategy, it’s not of much use to you.
