Google Set to Deal Groupon Some Competition with “Offers”
Last week, LivingSocial made a slash by offering a deal of $10 for $20 from Amazon.com. But this week, Google unveiled their daily deals. It works the same as Groupon or LivingSocial. Customers would get a daily offer on products and services via email. They are given 24 hours to buy the deal and once enough people have purchased the deal, it is activated. Will this be a success for Google? It’s too early to tell, but in this economy people have become deal crazy. This will likely become a hit for Google.
Facebook Launches Group-Buying Prototype
Speaking of Internet giants hopping on “Groupon craze” bandwagon, Facebook is testing a feature called “Buy With Friends.” A user makes an in-app purchase using “Facebook Credits” and shares it with their newsfeed. When friends see the purchased item in the newsfeed they can click and buy the same item at a discounted price.
Online Communities Are a Winner for Women
Women are often heavy users of social networks. They are more likely to connect with friends and family, share information and give advice. But Facebook might not be the best place for women. Research shows they may prefer online communities designed just for them–communities like CafeMom or BabyCenter. They trust these sites more, especially when it comes to information about brands and products.
LinkedIn Launches Targeted Ad Service
After a two-year test, LinkedIn has officially launched a self-service pay-per-click ad platform that allows you to target by job title, company name, or group. The targeted ads will likely increase click-through rates for advertisers. “We achieved a conversion rate for our client that was almost 3x that of the overall website average by targeting the professional audience on LinkedIn,” said Danielle Leitch, executive VP of client strategy at MoreVisibility, on LinkedIn’s Web site. This is all in the wake of the possible 2011 IPO offering of LinkedIn.
