IBM Brings Social Media Analytics to a New Level

Is it possible that the same software that popular language tutoring software, Rosseta Stone, uses can also be used for social media analytics? You better believe it! This week IBM debuted their new analytic tool for social media called the SPSS Modeler data mining and text analytics workbench.  Yes, it is a mouth full, but it’s supposed to be the best in the business.  It calculates user trends and is able to make accurate projections and suggestions based on the large quantities of data that is inserted.

Is this software practical for small business owners? Probably not.  The cost is just too high.  On the other hand though, the large corporations will have a field day with the power that this new IBM tool can provide.

Take a look at IBM’s SPSS official website to learn more about this new “toy.”  Do you think it will live up to it’s hype? Will it drastically improve the way company’s analyze data? Let us hear your thoughts!

*Maybe you’re not an ideal user of this IBM analytics tool, but if you still want help monitoring your brand and keywords across the social web, we can help recommend tools and processes to help you do this the right way. Heck, we’ll even help you manage them. Contact us today to learn more.

SPSS is a proven statistical analysis instrument for use in psychology and sociology, and works very well for statistical analysis and data mining. The IBM approach, although probably not practical for many smaller companies, is a great idea. Frankly, I’m a bit surprised that SPSS is only being used recently in our field. If used correctly, I do believe an SPSS program could greatly improve the way companies analyze data. I can see this becoming the gold (platinum?) standard for the industry. It looks like it may take a bit of a learning curve, but what software doesn’t nowadays?
