Since we’re well into the second day of BlogWorld in Las Vegas, I wanted to provide some quick thoughts about Day 1.

First, there are some really amazing, smart and caring people here. The ideas have been great as well, but meeting people from companies like Radian6, SAS, Mullen, Gannett and New Marketing Labs.

B2B Social Media

The first panel I attended was called, “B2B Social Media.” The panel featured Kipp Bodnar (Howard Merrell and Partners), David B. Thomas (SAS), Kyle Flaherty (BreakingPoint) and Mica Viehman (Monsanto).  The panelists all shared some interesting insights on how they have incorporated social media into their business. David shared that SAS started by creating an internal marketing 2.0 council to get everyone on the same page. Kyle suggested companies focus on making sure they have processes in place to track leads and ROI and then think about the delivery mechanisms and platforms.

There was also some good discussion on how to recruit employees and get them to adopt and participate in social media. Kyle said that a good way to motivate people was by showing them results. Kipp said that the bottom line is to make it as easy as possible for people to jump in.

Social Media Success Stories

Another fantastic panel I attended featured bright minds such as Justin Levy (New Marketing Labs and Caminitos Steakhouse), Frank Eliason (Comcast), Samantha Gammell (Oscar Meyer) and Brian Wiegand (Alice.com).

Frank shared some excellent thoughts on how Comcast has become so well-known for great customer service on Twitter. It started with just him monitoring what people were saying and responding. Now, he has a full team of people who listen and respond.

Justin talked a lot about how Caminito’s has increased their sales since cutting most of their traditional budget and focusing on social media and SEO.  Brian is doing some amazing things with Alice.com, which has kind of a hybrid Walmart/Netflix model for making sure people don’t run out of essential household items.

Overall, I was very impressed with the first day, and am looking forward to the rest of Day 2!
