A Thumbs-Up for Email Marketers
March 09 2010 by Tiffany Blosser ~ View Comments“What will be different about email this year?” Some think that emails will start to integrate video along with a mobile application for email marketers. This article from emailInsider suggests something different.
But there is something else that has been staring every marketer in the face, something that could be integrated in email marketing efforts. Just like Facebook has a “like” option for content and Twitter has a “retweet” option, emails should have the same kind of “thumbs-up” component that we see with Digg.
Social media has thrived on positive reinforcement for content by its users. Marketers can get positive feedback from users and see what content is working and what isn’t. The same should happen for email marketing. The trend for email marketing now is to focus on the negative: we can only mark emails as “spam” and file them away in the spam or junk folder. Only once in a while will someone go back and report a message as not spam, but the negative impact is recorded instead of the more positive one.
So why not give marketers a little more positive reinforcement for their efforts and content? It’s proven successful for social media so far and its traceability is most beneficial for marketers. Focus on the positive and tell marketers what you like, instead of complaining about what you don’t.
What do you think about this idea?
